From Simple Beginnings to Online Marketer, Living in Las Vegas

home based business experts paul and lorenaHi folks, my name is Paul Charron and I am an entrepreneur, internet marketing locomotive, network marketing success coach and freedom fighter.

I can tell you that it wasn’t always that way!

I grew up in a very small town in Ontario Canada. My dad was a truck driver and my mom was a stay at home mom. Just like most back then, my parents did the best they could, with what they had and it was never enough.

I was taught that money was hard to come by and that to get ahead you had to go to school and get good grades, find a good job and then work hard so that you could retire in 40 years with a good pension.

At the time, it didn’t sound like a bad idea because that is what the majority of the blue collar Canadians around me were doing.

Something inside of me was telling me that there had to be a better way.

Unfortunately, I didn’t know any other way and I continued down the wrong path. I still don’t know why I was so angry as a teenager because my life wasn’t too bad, but my constant fighting in school led me to dropping out of high school half way through the 11th grade.

Once I realized that what I had been programmed to believe most of my life, was pretty much a lie, everything started to change.

Formal education wasn’t going to get me where I wanted to go…

…but self education would make me a fortune!

I started listening to audio, watching DVD’s and was taking in as much information as possible, on business and accounting, that I could.

I starting making myself VALUABLE to the marketplace.

After dropping out of high school, I started working in a small foundry. They made all kinds of metals and molds and things.

My First Mentor

I started studying the books that the resident metallurgist had lying around and started watching what he was doing and asking him a TON of questions.

I HAD FOUND MY FIRST MENTOR before I really even knew that I needed one!

One day he called in sick and I got my chance to step into his roll. At the time I was the clean up guy. I swept floors, helped the warehouse guys with whatever they need and did very basic things around the factory.

It took some convincing to get management to let me try it, but eventually they realized they had no choice.

I GOT MY SHOT!

I had made myself valuable to that particular marketplace and then delivered the goods. I gave them what THEY needed and I got what I needed.

I instantly went from the “cleaning boy” to an assistant metallurgist at the age of 17.

SELF EDUCATION made that happen.

Continuing Education

Over the next 15 years, I had a few different jobs including driving truck across the United States and Canada.

One day while I was driving across North America, I walked into a truck stop and saw an older driver sitting there and he looked half dead!

His eyes were blood shot from being awake for who knows how long…

His belly was hanging out from under his shirt (very sexy)…

He was coughing from all the cigarettes he had smoked…

And at that point I thought HELL NO!

I needed to change my path…and quickly!

I needed another mentor.

I walked into the store at the truck stop and started looking at every audio book on personal development, sales training and making money that I could get my hands on. And I started listening.

I used my truck as a traveling business school. I made the decision to change my lifestyle. I didn’t know how quite yet, but I knew I NEEDED to learn something different from what I already knew.

Even though I had dropped out of school I NEVER stopped EDUCATING myself.

I listened to cassettes in my truck while driving (do cassettes date me a little?) and found time to read a book or two while on the road, as well.

Brian Tracy was one of my first mentors. I went all out and became a student of Earl Nightingale, Tom Hopkins, Zig Ziglar and eventually, my favorite of them all, Anthony Robbins.

Did I mention that education is paramount to your success!

I learned about business management and accounting.

I learned about sales.

I learned about becoming a better person through personal development.

I learned how to deal with people.

I actually found out that I LOVED learning out of the high school environment, especially with more interesting topics, outside of history, mathematics, geography and algebra.

Uncle Sam Was Calling My Name

Sometimes things happen in life that you’re not that proud of. It is still a part of who we are and as long as we learn from it then put it behind you and move on.

My first couple of years in the United States was just that for me.

I moved to El Paso, TX and had a failed marriage. At the time I thought I could get along with anyone…boy did I find out that wasn’t true! :)

The one saving grace from that experience was, my beautiful daughter was a result of it.

My father-in-law at the time, had an amazing rags to riches story that further fueled my fire.

He had started making leather moccasins with his brother, and reselling them. They turned it into one of the largest boot companies in the United States.

I had found my second mentor.

It was really the first time someone I knew told me that you could do anything you set your mind to. I listened to his stories of success and failure and I learned as much as possible about business from him.

I now thought more things were possible, but my blue collar programming was strong and I still had that underlying employee mentality.

When The Time is Right…Just Do It!

After my divorce, I started working for a car audio company. They were opening a new store in Las Vegas, NV and needed a crew. Again, I had made myself valuable to their marketplace and, of the ten or so stores they had, I was one of the people they selected to open the store in Las Vegas.

The owners of that company became my third mentors.

I eventually left to pursue my dream of becoming a professional golfer. It was short lived, but was also a HUGE learning experience for me. I played a few qualifying events for the Nike Tour, but with no success.

Talk about tough!

Every professional golf tournament has a qualifying event. The qualifying event has 144 players, playing for 2-4 spots depending on the event. Once you qualify for the tournament, you play the first 2 days and then the top 72 and ties, “make the cut”, and play the final 2 days, where only the top 10 get any recognition.

Golf is the ultimate, PERFORM OR GO HOME!

I came back to Las Vegas with my tail between my legs, but I learned from that experience.

I started working at a local golf club in Las Vegas in 1995.

I started making myself valuable to the marketplace again and in 1997, when the Rio Suites Hotel and Casino got ready to open up one of the most exclusive golf clubs in the country, I was picked to be one of the first golf professionals on their staff.

It was what most golf guys in Las Vegas would consider a premier golf job, and I would agree, but I still wasn’t quite where I wanted to be.

In 1998, I got a phone call from a gentlemen, who I had met at a golf event a year or so earlier. He was starting a golf event planning business. He had no idea how to run the accounting side of of the business, but I did.

All those years of audio and video were starting to pay off. I had continued to educate myself  and taught myself accounting. I also became a self-proclaimed expert at Quickbooks.

I was just the partner he needed to get his business to the level.

He also become another mentor. I learned a lot from him.

That year,  I punched a time clock for the last time and at the age of 34, I started building businesses.

It was a win, win for both of us! He knew how to sell and I knew how to do the accounting and operations.

I was given the opportunity to be involved in a new, small golf event company and left corporate America behind!  In 8 years, we grew this start-up from a two man operation into a multi-million dollar event planning company and I was making a very good income.

tony robbins and paul charron I actually got to work with Anthony Robbins at that company and it was an amazing experience. The photo at the right is of Tony and I at an event my company did for his Platinum Partners group in Las Vegas. He was a very humble, great guy and was appreciative of everything we did for them.

I put my heart and sole into this company, but after a difference in opinion, on the direction of the company, my business partner and I parted ways.

I came home to tell my wife, of a little over 3 months, that I had just left the company that I had spent eight years of my life building.  There I was.  May of 2007, in my 40’s, little formal education, living in a town of “who you know”, and I didn’t, and the economy was starting its downward spiral.

My wife and talked about either going to get jobs or starting something of our own.

It was unanimous.

RISK IT ALL!

Looking back it was THE BEST thing that could have ever happened to us.  It was time for me to put all the things I had been learning all those years to good use.

An Entrepreneur is Born: The School of Hard Knocks

We dabbled in a couple of different businesses. What I mean is that we couldn’t find anything we REALLY wanted to do so they flopped and we lost money. Not deterred, we kept looking and kept learning.

We finally hit it out of the park with one of our businesses, Picarsso Auto Spa, and that set us up for more success. Success breeds success.

The one thing I couldn’t do was help other people easily duplicate what I had done and I could only do so much for our current employees. I wanted to teach them that they could have and do more with their lives.

I’m not going to lie to you. Achieving success in the network marketing business is HARD! It’s not physically hard, but ALL businesses are a lot of work at the beginning.  We struggled for over a year, in Picarsso, before we started seeing positive effects and I believe that to be fairly typical.

Would I have it any other way?

The lessons you learn along the way are absolutely invaluable!  The more you can learn from the people who have gone before you though, the better off you will be and the faster you will see results.

After my wife and I started our business our friends thought we were nuts, but it’s really what we LOVE to do.  I had always joked with my wife about being a “jack of all trades, master of none”, but I didn’t see how that could help us earn a living. One of our friends told me, “Paul, with everything you know about business, you should teach others how to do it.”

Finally the light went on!

I have been through the struggles of start up and blazing my own trail and I thought it would help others if I could show them what I had already done.

I absolutely love talking to people about business!

What if I teach other entrepreneurs how to start their own small business?

My Network Marketing Career Begins

I had seen network marketing back in the hay day of Amway and I hated it. I didn’t like the deceptive practice of inviting people over to your house for dinner or a bbq, and then pitching them at a meeting.

It was horrible.

Fast forward to 2007 and a good friend of mine, from Canada, asked me to take a look at a new health and wellness company he had just got involved in. My other businesses were rocking so I told him no thanks.

A few years later, he came to visit and he was doing very well, in the exact same company. I knew he was serious about this business now and I had to open my eyes and my mind and have a look.

I read everything I could about network marketing and I fell in love with the industry.

Not only can I make a lot of money, but I can help other people do it too! It’s just as Zig Ziglar says, “the more people you help get what they want, the more you can get what you want.” You can’t do that in a regular business.

I agree with Eric Worre who says, “network marketing isn’t perfect, it’s just BETTER!”

I WAS HOOKED!

My research found that there were as many ways, if not more, to make a living online as there were offline.  What if I combine the two?  I could teach some people how to start their network marketing business offline and others how to do it on the internet and there are a lot of things that are common to both.

I knew I could definitely reach more people online and so paul-charron.com was born (yeah someone actually stole paulcharron.com…bastard!). I’ve since moved my blogging over here to PaulGoesGlobal.com.

What I love about blogging is I can interact with many people all over the world.  Whether an entrepreneur lives in the USA, Canada, Mexico or Australia, the basic principles of business are the same.  I can lay all the information out there for everyone to see and they can apply it however it works best for them, in their area of the world and in their particular niche.

I will be as open and honest as possible and answer all questions to the best of my knowledge.  If you want to know something that I haven’t shown you, just ask.  If my past experience can make your life as an entrepreneur just a little bit easier, I will be able to say I’ve succeeded.

If you are already in network marketing and have your business up and running, I hope that my bumps and bruises will help you reach your goals faster and with less blood, sweat and tears.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are NO SECRETS!

You will be required to work your ass off!

If you are tossing around the idea of building a network marketing business, I hope to be able to help you make an informed decision on which direction you’d like to go.

Once you are up and running, my delusion is that I hope you will do the same for others!

I must warn you right now before you go any further, that sometimes my language can get quite colorful (I’m trying to get better).  I honestly believe that our country has turned into a bunch of whiny, crybabies and I believe that if you don’t have everything you want in your life, you need to stop blaming others and go do what YOU KNOW YOU HAVE TO DO to get it!

Last, but certainly not least.  I am teaching you what I know from my experience as a network marketing success coach.  I am NOT an attorney, or CPA, or IRS agent, nor do I hold any certifications.  I am sharing what I have done myself and I strongly suggest that you seek professional guidance before moving forward with any business venture.  Always make sure that you are within the laws of your particular city and state.

 You’ve gotta Have Fun!

I LOVE to have fun and that is one of the reasons I LOVE to make money. It’s not the money itself that I’m looking for, but what the money allows me to do with my family. As you’ll soon find out, there is not a whole lot of things that I take too seriously.

There is one exception… MY BUSINESS!

Supporting my family and helping other people achieve success, I take extremely serious!

I have been successfully building traditional offline businesses for over 10 years.  In 2010, I decided it was time to join the successful entrepreneurs who have been building on the internet.  Boy, do I wish I had jumped on this 10 years ago!

I’m not a pretentious guy with a ridiculous car. I’m not a millionaire, although the next few years will bring me much closer. I don’t have an outrageous house, you’ll find on cribs, because I’d rather spend my time traveling with my wife and son, than sitting at home.

What I do have is several pretty nice vehicles, including a badass Harley, that are all paid for in full.  I have a gorgeous, intelligent, supportive, wife.  An awesome, teenage, son whose personal growth, I am so very proud of, and an amazing daughter who fills my heart to capacity.

My businesses allow me the freedom to choose when I get to spend time with them.

That, my friends, is what being a network marketing success coach is all about!

I look forward to working with you or meeting you at one of the many events held around the world.
